Apply Leirvik completes living quarters for Ivar Aasen platform

The Norwegian independent oil company Det norske has today announced that the living quarters module for the Ivar Aasen platform is ready for departure. The living quarters module has been built by Apply Leirvik at Stord. The module, which weighs 2,300 tons and is 40 meters tall, is now placed on a barge in the harbour at Stord, and will later be lifted into place at the Ivar Aasen platform in the North Sea.

The living quarters on Ivar Aasen has seven floors and a total area of around 3,300 square meters. It has 70 single cabins, recreation areas, offices, hospital, control rooms and helicopter deck – all it takes to operate a small community offshore at Utsirahøyden. In addition are two lifeboats and a man-overboard boat. Despite its volume and space, it weighs “only” around 2300 tons, which is due to only the 10 lower meters being made of steel, while the remaining upper 30 meters are built in aluminium.

“We are very pleased with the project and the work Apply Lervik has performed. The project is completed within time and budget, but above all, we are very happy with the excellent HSE standards shown. Several hundred men have worked without any lost-time injuries during the project since contract award took place in September 2013”, says Karl Johnny Hersvik CEO in Det norske.

The Ivar Aasen topside is currently on its way from Singapore to the North Sea. “With the living quarter completed and the topside on its way from Singapore to the North Sea we are within schedule to achieve the goal of production start-up on Ivar Aasen around 1 December 2016”, says Hersvik.
